Vizslas can be sold in pet stores. It is not recommended to buy from pet stores, as the sources of the pups sold are unreliable. Pet stores cannot guarantee that the pups are healthy and of a high quality. Commercial kennels and puppy mills usually produce many breeds of dogs. Brokers tend to buy dogs from large and small breeders. It is next to impossible to trace from where the pet store pups came. Puppies from pet shops may have some genetic problems and may not conform to the breed standard.
When buying from reputable breeders, a potential owner has a chance to see both parents of the litter. It gives a perfect opportunity to draw a picture of your pet as an adult. Reputable breeders will be willing to keep track of the puppies they sell. If a good breeder feels you are not a match with a Vizsla breed and will probably be unable to provide the dog with proper care, he will not sell you his pup. A breeder's responsibility does not end once a buyer has signed a check and stepped out of the breeder's house. With pet stores, you have no one to turn to when some problem crops up.
An experienced breeder is knowledgeable on the breed and seizes every opportunity to educate potential Vizsla owners. The major difference between a pet store and a reputable breeder is that a breeder's aim is to improve the breed, while a pet store's aim is to sell Vizslas and other breeds of dogs to make a profit.
